What is Dehydration?
Dehydration happens when there isn’t enough water to keep your body functioning the way it should. It can cause dizziness, rapid breathing, headaches, fainting, and much worse if not treated ASAP. Becoming dehydrated is much easier than you might think, especially during the hot months when kids are running around in the heat of the summer sun. But if you stay aware of how much fluids you and your kids are taking in, staying hydrated shouldn’t be an issue.
Keep an Eye Out for Signs of Dehydration
Dry lips, sunken eyes, few, if any trips, to the bathroom, and a lack of tears are all signs of dehydration. You should also be on the lookout for lower-than-normal energy levels, irritability, or unusual behavior in general. These are often the best indicators that your child is low on water and needs fluids fast.
The Best Treatment for Dehydration is Avoiding it Altogether
Kids will often have a hard time realizing they’re getting dehydrated, especially when they’re running around having fun. And whether they’re outside on the mini-golf course or playing inside here at Charleston Fun Park, they might not complain about symptoms until it’s too late.
Make sure you interrupt play time often to remind the kiddos to have a cup of water, milk, or juice.
Picky Drinkers? Try This!
If you have a picky drinker on your hands, try some alternative methods like making homemade popsicles with juice or blended fruits and veggies. Watermelon, cucumbers, celery and other fruits and vegetables that have a high-water content work great and can be sweetened if needed.
Don’t let dehydration stop you from having fun! We’ll see you and your family at Charleston Fun Park.
